As children move on in school, there are naturally fewer opportunities
for parents to be involved in the daily school experiences of
their children. Yet, on the middle school level, parents are
often sought to attend field trips or share expertise in
the classroom. This also happens, at times, on the high school
level. Additionally, LuHi parents assist with efforts to support
various extra-curricular activities at the school.
Many special events at Long Island Lutheran exist successfully
with the support of parents, alumni, and friends of the school:
- Each year, over 150 students and adults work tirelessly
at Volunteer Day. Their work assists in getting our campus
ready for the new school year when our summer programs are
finished each August.
- Our largest volunteer-driven event is our successful Bid-for-Kids
Dinner Auction. Over 200 volunteers come together each year
to create a stylish, exciting event that raises over
$150,000 annually for programs and enhancements that directly
affect our students.
- The Family Association exists specifically for parents
of the school to support the educational experience at Long
Island Lutheran. These important volunteers sponsor evening
programs of interest for parents and families. They also
raise funds through the fall, Christmas, and spring
for enhancements in the classroom and for student life.
- Phonathons take place in February and March helping to
raise funds for LuHi’s capital campaign goals. Staff
and volunteers spend evenings on campus making calls to
the LuHi Family in support of programs and facility enhancements,
procuring a large number of pledged donations.
- Alumni also become involved as volunteers in a number of ways by becoming meaningfully engaged on committees and boards, planning reunions, and supporting the school through a variety of fundraising events. Whether they add their support through funding, items, time or talent, their efforts are appreciated by all and support their alma mater's programs for students and campus enhancements.
