50th Anniversary Celebration
With Joy and Thanksgiving - As a once in a lifetime experience, the LuHi Family will gather in a variety of ways to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Long Island Lutheran throughout 2010. Special events will include a gala celebration, all-school reunion, summer family day, LuHi cruise, and other activities throughout the year. Additionally, the LuHi family will focus on servant experiences involving Habitat for Humanity, service in Nicaragua, and a variety of events allowing all members of the LuHi Family and our association congregations to become involved in meaningful ways. Mailings, email, Facebook, and LinkedIn correspondence will announce these events, ensuring the highest possible involvement for this special occasion.

Bid-for-Kids Dinner Auction
Each year in November, hundreds of volunteers create a spectacular evening at Bid-for-Kids. Unique themes and creative decorations transport attendees to interesting places and times where they have the opportunity to bid on over 400 exciting prize packages. From the silent auction and the ticket auction to specialty raffles and the live auction, there’s something for everyone at LuHi’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Gold Coast, the theme for 2010, will acknowledge our 50th Anniversary and bring us back to the Gatsbyesque North Shore of Long Island.

LuHi Open Golf Outing
Long Island's premier golf event, the LuHi Open is among the most successful golf outings in the area. Included in the program is a great day of golf and fantastic food at the beautiful Tam O'Shanter Club, Brookville. Festivities conclude with the Rev. Ed Visscher Awards Dinner where friends of the school are honored for support and involvement in activities that enrich the lives of young people. Funds raised from the LuHi Open and Awards Dinner support school programs, as well as scholarships in memory of The Reverend Ed Visscher. It is a pleasure to announce our 2010 honorees - Mr. Joseph King and Vernon "Earl the Pearl" Monroe. Click here for registration information

Homecoming & Class Reunions
LuHi's Homecoming and Class Reunions are not to be missed! Old friends are happy to re-connect with the school and each other, as record numbers of alumni come home to LuHi. Amidst the beauty of October's fall foliage, LuHi will host an all-school reunion on October 16 and 17, 2010. As part of our 50th Anniversary actitivities, graduates are gathering from across the country for the opportunity to smile into familiar faces and introduce their families to classmates.

Sports activities are always exciting at Homecoming and are well attended by alumni, current students, parents, faculty, and friends of the school. The annual Road Rally is competitive fun with student and adult teams racing to win bragging rights.

Evening receptions in 2010 will gather alumni by decade, offering them a chance to touch base with classmates before joining with all alumni and former staff for dinner and dancing in the evening.

As part of additional celebrations for the 50th, Sunday half day activities include former teachers in the classrooms, morning chapel, and a luncheon to tie up weekend activities. Registration Form for 2010 All-School Reunion

Other events specifically for alumni include the Ryan Lynch Charity Football Game, the Winter Alumni Reception at LuHi Basketball, and the biennial Career Day.

Campaign
In January 2008, Long Island Lutheran launched ROOTED IN FAITH, GROWING IN EXCELLENCE, a 6-year campaign to support a number of crucial projects at the school. As funding is received, goals will commence, including new classroom windows; five completely renovated science laboratories; an artifical turf game field; renovations to ourdoor game fields and tennis courts, support buildings for outdoor athletics; as well as ongoing projects including Christian service; technology upgrades; curricular offerings; campus renovations, "green projects," and growth of the Memorial Endowment Fund.
