Preparing For College

The focus of LuHi's college counseling program is to help families maximize their college choices and match students with the school that can best meet their needs.

Counseling begins in grade nine with a general orientation to the college selection process. Each student meets individually with their guidance counselor to gain an understanding of school transcripts and discuss the importance of academic performance, course selection, and co-curricular activities. Interest inventories and career exploration begin in sophomore year while students prepare for the PSAT.

LuHi's SAT Plus program provides financial assistance for families of juniors and seniors who use outside professional services to prepare for SAT exams. During the senior year, students and parents meet with guidance counselors for college planning sessions to review college materials, discuss courses of study, and select schools for application. Additionally, with guidance from qualified teachers, students receive help brainstorming ideas and polishing college essays for submission to colleges of interest. The application process is coordinated through the Guidance Counselor to ensure an effective presentation of student credentials. With nearly all LuHi graduates going on to college, our outstanding college placement record demonstrates the strength of our counseling process.
