The High School is an educational community that encourages
students in grades nine through twelve to become competent,
caring individuals now and in their futures. With the primary
purpose of preparing students for success in college and beyond,
LuHi's rigorous college preparatory curriculum challenges students
to think analytically and creatively. The extensive use of technology
in the classroom enhances the learning process for students
and provides faculty with a teaching environment consistent
with the technological advances of the 21st Century. Long Island
Lutheran teachers maintain high expectations for their students
and, at the same time, offer the individual support needed to
realize those expectations.
Students are encouraged to pursue the level of study appropriate
to their individual skills, interests, needs, and personal growth.
Beginning in ninth grade, students are required to demonstrate
proficiency in English, math, history, science, and foreign
language, in addition to meeting requirements in religion, computer,
and fine arts. Honors classes, available for students who demonstrate
superior achievement, allow them to advance more rapidly, explore
subjects more fully, and prepare for college level work in their
junior and senior years. With Advanced Placement courses in
most disciplines and college classes available on campus through
our own Distance Learning program, students leave LuHi well
prepared for the rigors of college.
