Through our spiritual life programs we strive to help our students develop a personal faith that is evidenced by a life of commitment and service. Opportunities for Christian service, an important and active part of who we are as a school, are provided both through classes and student organizations.
In recent years students have been involved in a variety of servant experiences both locally and abroad. As part of our 50th Anniversary Celebration, LuHi took on corporate sponsorship of a Habitat for Humanity Home on Long Island, raising over $20,000 for the project and filling 10 work days with student, parent, and alumni builders. Students have visited the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and Tanzania where they worked to improve housing and schools in the area. And in 2010, LuHi students began serving families in Nicaragua, bringing sinks and clean running water to homes while building relationships with families in villages where they worked.
Out most gratifying servant experience took place in April 2011, as over 1,300 volunteers from the larger community including all LuHi students, faculty and staff packaged over 300,000 meals to feed hungry children in Haiti. This event was such a success and so meaningful for students and families that LuHi will again be hosting this servant experience in April 2012.
