Long Island Lutheran students are encouraged to participate
in a variety of co-curricular activities, adding another dimension
to their educational experience. With the help of knowledgeable
and dedicated coaches and advisors, students have many opportunities
to socialize, develop skills, and compete in a positive, supervised
setting.
Academic clubs, drama and fine arts programs, and various service
organizations offer exciting ways for both middle and high school
students to get involved.
Student government provides opportunities for
leadership at all grade levels, and many students train to provide
support to one another as peer counselors, mediators, and middle
school buddies.
Our athletic teams, competing with other independent schools at the varsity, junior varsity, and middle school levels, teach discipline, determination, cooperation and teamwork. LuHi athletic programs aim to:
- Witness our faith in Christ Jesus through athletic competitions against other schools;
- Incorporate a "program" mentality to foster connections between middle school teams and varsity teams;
- Compete with a sense of teamwork and trust for highest possible achievement;
- Teach athletes that competition is best when respect and sportsmanship are shown to officials, the opponents, each other, and the game itself;
- Instruct student athletes to become students of the game and to improve physical abilities, maximizing talents throughout high school and on to the collegiate level;
- Foster improvement in life-learning skills so that athletes learn to accept challenges, overcome adversity, and become leaders in all aspects of life.
